Team,

Great job guys, we notched a win today in a close match vs. Mariposa, 3-2, despite being short-handed

John gave Les Shigetani, one of the top singles players in the league, a match at #1 singles (6-3, 6-4), we defaulted #2 singles, and prevailed in all 3 doubles matches.

Dave B & Frank held off a 2nd set comeback to win in 2.

Taylor and Rob won by TKO when one of their opponents shanked (defined: "The term referring to a misdirected shot. This is caused by a ball hitting the frame of the racket rather than on its center. " Sports pundit.) an attempted return of Taylor's serve into his own eye and had to retire (if Taylor doesn't get you one way, he'll get you another).

Ray and Dave S would have made Brad Gilbert proud by winning ugly in the deciding match, coming back at the last instant in the 3rd.  Ray's sentence of 40 lashes for not checking in Fri. was commuted after winning the match.

Next up will be a home match at our new digs, RTC, vs. TCC next Sat. 3/26, warmup @ 10:30, start time 11:00.  Players should bring $5, a can of balls, and lots of Whoopassium- we'll need it.  I'll be paying upfront for everyone, and then collect from our players.

The Season is now Open!

By Frank Walker
El Captain

The league schedule for the upcoming season has been published, and the link was sent via email  Let me know if you have any trouble with it.  Please put an x under your name for all matches you'll be able to play, as soon as you know, and 'out' for the ones you can't.  This is what I'll be using to make the lineups, replacing the email inquiries about who can play each match.  I will try to send out the lineup for each match by Weds., and I'd like to resume the custom of the Friday check-in for the players in the line-up.

We only have 7 matches, with 3 being at our new home RTC.  You'll notice that our home match times and days vary-  this is what we were able to get.

Thanks everybody who has registered.  Still waiting on Dave Roberts (hope you're doing well and ready to rock n roll!),  and our new recruit Michael Powell.  I hope you guys will be joining us!  By the way, Mark Noethen's old team is reforming somewhere, and he'll be playing with them.

Before I forget, I want to mention a new USTA rule that has taken effect this year regarding changing a call, which is bound to cause controversy.  Here is the text from the rules:

Out calls reversed. A player who calls a ball out shall reverse the call if the
player becomes uncertain or realizes that the ball was good. The point goes to the
opponent and is not replayed
. However, when a receiver reverses a fault call on a
serve that hit the net, the server is entitled to two serves.

Lastly,  If possible I'm hoping we can all get in one final practice session this saturday before our first match, which is saturday 3/19 at Mariposa.
